Tanfoglio Witness 1911 Co2 Pistol

Type: BB air pistol.
Materials: 99% all metal build.
Weight: 2 pounds.
Barrel: 4.38 inches Brass, non-rifled.
Propulsion: CO2 x1.
Action: Semi auto blowback, single action.
Ammunition Type: Steel BB's 4.5mm.
Ammunition Capacity: 18 rounds.
FPS: 320.
Trigger Pull: The trigger pull is what you would expect from a real 1911 automatic pistol, with single action. It is very light and short.
Accuracy: Surprisingly good! I got just under a two inch grouping from 20 feet away shooting 8 shots on a target in a free standing position,
Build Quality: Almost all metal construction, good weight and craftsmanship.
Realism: This is as close as you can come to the look, weight, feel, and action of the real 1911 in virtually every way! I'm not sure what more you could ask for? If you do want more then you are going to have to go out and pick your self up up a real 45 auto 1911!

This gun is awesome, it is a fun gun for getting rid of stress and enjoying your self. It feels like a 45 , strips just like one. It uses a lot of gas you get 4 x 18 mags worth out of 1 capsule. I changed the grips on mine to real 45 ones, pictures above show the factory fit grips photo below is my pistol with new grips.

Highly recommend this gun its not a target pistol but a fun plinker.

TX200HC .22 (MKIII)

TX 200 MK 111   I am very  pleased with this rifle , purchased recently off a friend this rifle is highly accurate @ a zero of 35 yards & is consistent in grouping it is a joy to use.The weight is not an issue as the balance is perfect in-fact , the rifle comes in at a little under twelve & a half pounds with scope . The rifle is well engineered & simple to use the  quality speaks for itself. The blueing has been stripped leaving the bare metal that has been polished to a mirror finish this gives the rifle a distinctive look and feel.

The stock is walnut with "fish scale" carving, I find the feel of this gun to be better than the HW77 & HW97 the stock feels chunky the trigger is predictable and light and as good as the record trigger on my HW98. Anyone looking for a full power under lever rifle this rifle ticks all the boxes. This model is the HC (Hunter carbine ) which has the shorter barrel see picture comparison below , asthetically I think the HC looks and feels better, and accuracy is not effected by the shorter barrel

Weihrauch HW98 .177

The Weihrauch HW98 air rifle represents a quantum leap forward in design. Built for the competitive shooter, small game hunter, or backyard plinker, the HW98 has features that everyone will appreciate. The cheek piece can be adjusted up almost two inches. The superb butt plate assembly allows a similar range of movement up or down, plus has the ability to cant or twist the butt pad. The infinite combination of adjustments can provide a strain-less fit for any shooter in any position!
A beautifully blued, all-steel barrel sleeve covers the carbine barrel and helps dampen muzzle movement. The fore stock and palm swell is stippled to give a sure grip under all shooting conditions, and the black highlights of the stippling and grooves along the fore stock accent the rich brown hardwood stock. The two-staged Rekord trigger, one of the finest available today, is also fully adjustable to the shooters preference. For those who enjoy field target competition, the HW98 will be a genuine contender in the piston class right out of the box. No additions or accessories are needed, except for a good scope and rings

I think the above sums this rifle up perfectly, I consider it to be the best break barrel rifle on the market, it has a good weight, low recoil , consistent power and can be adjusted to fit you perfectly. This is my main HFT gun, I have yet to shoot a better springer!!

XS78 CO2 Rifle .22 (QB 78)

The XS78 .22 CO2 rifle is probably one of the most mod-able rifles around, the standard format out of the box takes 2 x standard 12g powerlets and power will be any thing from 6lb to 9lb , they usually shoot accurately out of the box. The modifications you can do to these rifles are almost limitless and every one ends up with a  unique rifle. Below are the mods  I did to 2 such rifles my own and my sons.

Strip down - https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4hV3nw-qXdnUU1zaXh0emsxM00  this link takes you to a full strip down guide.

Tune up - First job is to get the power up and smooth everything out to get consistency. In the UK  we are limited to 12lbs , for a .22 gun  you only need to change the transfer port, remove the filter in the valve, polish the internals and bolt, open up the bolt probe using a dremel and change all the seals. You will need to purchase a chronograph or get access to one (£60.00) so you can check you are not over power, it is very easy to go over power !  . CO2 is effected by temperature, the warmer the day the more powerful the discharge and on a cold day the power will be down, you need to make sure your gun will not go over 12lb on a hot day - usually it is advisable to tune up to about 11lb at room temp and check on a hot day with the chrono. Seals and transfer ports  can be purchased from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY1WjhJPFRk  these are the best quality and a good price.

the above shows you the parts to polish and de-bur , this will make the gun smooth, you need to lube properly with moly grease on metal parts and silicon grease on the rubber seals , this protects the seals from the CO2.

New stocks - The most dramatic change you can make visually is to change the stock, the Webley AGS stocks are readily available, cheap and do not take much work to fit the 78 action. Below are the 2 styles of stock fitted to our guns.

With these stocks you get a gap left at the back of the action , this can be filled with wood or metal to finish it off , I decided to put something useful in the gap --- a shot counter. the .22 guns  will fire approx 50 shots on 2 capsules, it is best to store these guns charged with CO2 so I click each time I fire and when I get to 50 its time to change the capsules, also means when I put the gun away i know how many shots i have had when I use it again.

This modification makes the gun multi-shot , they work well, all you need to do is put high mounts on your scope . .22 gives you 6 shots.

I highly recomend these guns they are good value recoiless guns that are easy to work on and make your own. The only word of caution is that the .22 can easily go over power so make sure you have access to a chronograph. The .177 is harder to get up to 12lb but can be done.

Air Arms Jackal - High Power

Jackal High power .22, have recently acquired 2 of these, the first one my son immediately claimed, after handling and shooting it I had to have one for myself . The 2  pictured above are  both .22 High Powers the top one had iron sights (Sons) the bottom one had a barrel weight and no iron sights. The magazine attached is not an original but an SLR mag adapted to fit. These guns are at least 22 years old , These guns were originally produced by the Sussex Armoury who went bust in 1982 Air Arms bought the remaining parts from Sussex Armoury and the rifles were produced up until 1990. Top gun is a low serial number so is older than the bottom oneby quite a few years .
These guns are side lever action, with a tap for loading ( no trapped fingers ) gun has no safety. Weigh just over 8lbs with out a scope. They were made in .177 , .22 and the very rare .20. Both guns have been stripped, and lubed and shoot very smoothly with no twang or hollow stock sound.
Of all the guns i have this is my all time keeper it looks great , shoots great and always gets other shooters wanting a go. A few years ago these usually sold for about £60 - £70, these days you will see them going for £180+ as a minimum.

Air Arms produced a number of different versions all using the same action , these included ABS and wooden stocks.

  • Firepower
  • Hi Power
  • Rapide ( wood )
  • Combat
  • S-A/L
  • Woodsman ( wood )
  • Bora( wood )
  • Mistral ( wood )
  • Carmague( wood )
  • Khamsin( wood )
  • SE90( wood )
  • EX88( wood )
below are a few examples of some adverts in the press for some of the above.

Every one who has owned one of these has either kept it and would never sell or regrets to this day selling one. They are one of a kind and the only military looking Air Gun ever made. The .22 High Powers are the most common .177 high powers are rare , the .20 is very rare. Firepower and Combat are difficult to find.

B45-3 ( Pump up air rifle )

The B45-3 , another Chinese rifle, you don't see many of these around due to the fact that they are too easy to get over power ( UK ). Mine is a .177 model, originally it would not hold air for more than a few seconds. I stripped the mechanism down and could not believe how simple it is. All it need was a good clean and correct lubes on the metal and seals. Once this was done I found that 4 pumps gave a consistent 10.5 lbs and 5 pumps was nearly  over 12lb . Never tried 6 pumps as there is a danger of blowing the seals. the gun is light and very point able, the 12 shot magazine works OK but due to the fact you have to pump between shots this does not make it a fast shooter between shots.
Rregardless of calibre the magazine is  .22 so .177 pellets fit loosely and you have to be careful when loading not to crush or get them stuck in the breech.
Open sights are quite good, there are 11mm grooves to fit a scope but they are not great, a small red dot sight works well.

Criticisms of this gun would be the effort to pump and you need good technique so as not to twist the lever. the trigger gets correspondingly stiffer as you increase the pumps but the trigger is predictable. On the plus side it is light , has no recoil, the stock is comfortable and overall I think it looks good. Accuracy is very good.
Below is a picture of the gun in action and a strip down guide below that.

B3-1 (AK47 Look a like air rifle)

B3-1 air rifle, side lever, folding stock and looks like an AK 47, it is actually more like a chinese type 56 , the folding stock and part of the shell are the same as the type 56.
I purchased this brand new in .177 calibre, still had a covering of grease all over it fresh from the factory.

These are not very powerfull out of the box , usually about 6lb, they strip down really easy and have very little pre-load on the spring, I changed the spring for a new stainless steel one and this uped the power a bit.
The folding stock is very solid and locks up tightly with no movement. The open sights are good and the front sight needs the same tool to adjust as an AK 47.

The look of the gun is quite pleasing but it just does not look right with out a magazine!!

Decided to fit a magazine and see what it looked like. This was easier said than done, firstly the metal is thick and my dremel struggled to cut the opening for the mag, Next problem the anti - beartrap hangs low in the stock so there is not a lot of room to play with. I managed to use strips of metal to fit and clamp the magazine in place.

Looks a lot better now, Magazine is a real one not an air soft , still I was not happy with the look an AK 47 does not have a folding stock like this. I managed to get a real AK wooden stock and after a struggle managed to remove the folding stock and fit the wooden one, at the same time I also got a fire selector lever from an AK and fitted that. Red dot sight also fitted instead of the scope and i think she looks good.

overall a nice handling gun, fairly accurate and I use this as my open sight gun at the club.

TS45 Sidelever Rifle .22

This is a really interesting gun and quite unusual. When I purchased it the seller sold it as a Fast Deer KLB3 , which i thought it was until recently. The KLB3 looks similar but has the safety in the side of the stock and no bear trap release under the stock.
The TS45 has been around for along time and appears in a number of guises.

The main features of this gun are
  • long barrel with moderator
  • manual safety in the trigger guard - push forward and it stops trigger moving
  • push button under the stock - level with the breech - pops out when you cock the rifle, have to push in to release the bear trap and push side lever forward
  • side lever action
  • .22 - likes superdomes

The stock is good quality for a Chinese rifle and is not covered in the  brown gunk they normally use.
I have stripped and lubed the action and fettled the trigger slightly, chronod at 10lbs so not the most powerful gun but has incredible accuracy it is pellet on pellet at 25 yards ( .22 superdomes ) the trigger is predictable and crisp.

The one thing I did not like about this gun was its looks, although the stock is full sized it still looked odd due to the long barrel.
I reckoned a TX200 stock would look good on it and improve the looks.

The stock I got was broken so i had to first fix that , the TX200 is an under lever so the under lever slots had to be filled and then all the in-letting adapted to fit the action

The stock came up quite nice with about 4 coats of varnish and a rub down between coats, once the action was fitted I liked the new look - bit like a prosport?

I would recommend this gun to any one the accuracy is excellent, I have not seen many on the web so if you have one let me know your thoughts on it.
